Charles Town Chatter

I foolishly thought that I was tired enough to sleep through the night without any chemical help. I was wrong!  Up at two and then four and sleepless until six when I figured I may as well get up and get to work.  There was a heavy fog this morning and I needed a light jacket for my walk.  It was really magical, with the dense fog, especially in the river valley, providing cover for everything until the sun started to break through. Then I could slowly see a small herd of deer grazing in the clearing, only about fifty feet in front of me.  I stopped and got on my knees so they couldn’t see me right away and enjoyed just watching them for five minutes.  The moment I stood up, they were gone in a blur of brown with their white tails standing up high.

I walked for about forty-five minutes and came back to make some coffee and check on the overnight emails.  After coffee I sorted the tons of mail that had arrived in our absence and threw most of it right in the garbage.  Goodness what a waste of paper from all the unsolicited magazines, credit card offers and glossy brochures describing cruises I’ll never take.  At exactly eight o’clock I got on the phone and started going through the list I had drawn up of calls that had to be resolved before I leave.  By eleven, I had made most of the calls, written and sent most of the checks I needed to get out and organized the rest of the day, which would be spent in the car going to banks, shops, stores and dry cleaners.  Man, I know how to live.

Poor Cindy got home at 6:30pm after a long, hard and frustrating day, only to discover that the Internet was out in the apartment complex.  Of course, she tried to trouble shoot thinking it was a problem with our modem or computers, but it was a system problem that took hours to correct.  Meanwhile we used the phone, something we haven’t done in years. I can’t wait to see my cell phone bill this month.  We finally connected via Skype just before her bedtime so all was not lost.

Last night I had a small spinach and tomato salad with some pieces of roasted chicken.  I was too tired to cook and almost too tired to eat. I tried to read before going to bed but my eyes would not cooperate and kept closing so I gave up and went to sleep for four hours. Tonight I shall make sure that I get a full night’s sleep.

Oh goodie, now it is going to get really fun in Moscow since Yuri is filing suit against the state-owned TV station that reported he was a crook. Can’t wait to get back for the fireworks: http://en.rian.ru/russia/20100913/160573756.html

It is now time to start looking for and packing all the things on the list that Cindy gave me.  I just got here and now I have to start packing.  Being Cindy’s Sherpa is a full time job!

Ciao for now, Wm
